PAE assists local Charity

August 2009

 

A Leeds based Charity selected PAE Networks to assist them select a LAN provider for their upcoming IPT Rollout. The Charity was looking to replace their Telephony platform with a full VoIP solution. As part of this project, various network upgrades would be required. One of these was the LAN at each of the locations. The Charity had received a number of quotations from various suppliers to provide a replacement LAN which incorporated Power over Ethernet (PoE). With pricing being extremely high, the Charity requested that PAE Networks Ltd work as an independent consultant to review their requirements, LAN topology, vendors and provide a recommendation with full justification.

 

Having reviewed the requirements in-depth, PAE Networks Ltd recommended a solution built predominately using Cisco Catalyst 4500 hardware that provided the best return on investment for the Charity whilst providing a highly resilient, scalable solution that is easily managed on a day to day basis by the in-house IT team.

 

Whilst the Cisco hardware may have been initially slightly more than certain competitors, the features provided within the Cisco Operating System - IOS, could be utilised to lower energy consumption, increase service levels and provide a network environment that could dynamically adapt to certain situations. Some of the key features include;

 

• Cisco EnergyWise
• Cisco IP Service Level Agreements (SLA)
• Cisco Network Based Application Recognition (NBAR)
• Cisco Network Access Control (NAC)
• Cisco Embedded Event Manager (EEM)
• Cisco Netflow

 

By utilising Cisco EnergyWise, the energy savings were calculated to be reduced by approximately £87,500 over 5 years, bringing the Total Cost of Ownership down to a level similar to the competitors. This also has the added environmental benefits of an estimated 99 Metric Tons of Green House Gas Emissions reduction - Equivalent to 22.62 Acres of Pine Forest Sequestration

PAE migrates NHS Trust

July 2009

 

A local NHS Trust engaged PAE Networks to migrate their Internet based services from Nortel to Fortinet as well as migrate from the current  Internet connection at Site A to a new Internet connection at Site B.

 

The expected deliverables would be to create a project plan for the migration, highlighting the configuration requirements for each phase. This would also include performing the configuration changes and testing.

 

The migration had to be performed with minimal downtime and disruption to service - Web and VPN.

Service Provider increases DNS resilience

June 2009

 

A UK Service Provider needed to increase the resilience on their DNS infrastructure which served their UK based clients. With many years experience with Infoblox DNS appliances, PAE Networks provided the necessary design creativity and implementation skills to migrate the existing Infoblox DNS setup to a more fault tolerant topology, leveraging the Service Providers existing investment and making the most of the features available within their MPLS and Firewall environment.

PAE Networks steps in!

April 2009

 

A European Logistics company opening their new office in the UK called on PAE Networks to assist with their Cisco VPN and Voice Gateway. With the site supposed to be open the next morning, their communications were down. As the solution provider was unable to dispatch an engineer from Israel in time, the company required a UK company to assist at very short notice. PAE Networks stepped in and resolved the communications issues, liasing with the solution provider and local carrier.
